Data Protection

Data protection and privacy laws ensure that information collected and collated during the assessment process are used solely for the purposes for which they are gathered. The introduction of online assessment and storage has prompted further guidelines and advice to be developed for the HR community.

SHL has supported its clients in being part of the body creating these guidelines and ensuring that you too understand your role with regard to your applicants and employees.

A series of scenarios are presented in this paper which highlight assessment issues around the Data Protection Act. Suggestions on how to deal with these issues are provided, based on input to a workshop from people including the Assistant Information Commissioner, a privacy consultant and a lawyer.
