Leadership

Leadership is about influencing people so that they come to share common values and goals and therefore work more effectively in achieving the organisation's vision. How to identify the leaders of tomorrow is an issue that is hotly debated throughout organisations today. Indeed, many view it as the area of talent management needing most attention.

SHL has developed the SHL Corporate Leadership Model that combines the currently fashionable 'transformational' and 'transactional' themes into four main functions that capture the qualities of leadership. We will continue to explore and expand our thinking in this area.

This paper presents a new, functional approach to leadership. A four-function model is defined which integrates both transactional and transformational competences into an approach to leadership that addresses individual, group, corporate and contextual issues.
