Technical Test Battery (TTB)

Overview:

The Technical Test Battery is a series of tests particularly suitable for the selection and development of individuals in technically or practically oriented jobs. Most suitable for people with basic to good GCSE's or equivalent. Four of the tests within the TTB have parallel tests available.

Suitable for:

Craft Apprentices, Technical Apprentices, Skilled Operatives and Technical Supervisors.

VT1.1 Verbal Comprehension

Measures vocabulary and basic word skills using language which reflects the requirements of technical occupations.  It is appropriate for use with apprentices in engineering, building and other industries.

Time: 12 minutes

NT2.1, NT2.2 Numerical Computation

Measures basic numeracy and is appropriate for craft apprentices and also for more general use.  The emphasis is on understanding numerical relationships and operations as well as the ability to perform basic calculations. No qualifications are required.

Time: 10 minutes

ET3.1 Visual Estimation

Measures spatial perception and the ability to make accurate visual comparisons.  It is particularly suitable for craft and operator level jobs involving basic design and assembly work.

Time: 10 minutes

MT4.1, MT4.2 Mechanical Comprehension

Measures the understanding of basic mechanical principles and their applications to a number of devices, including pulleys, gears and levers.  A core skill relevant in many technical jobs and suitable for use with candidates with no qualifications up to 'A' Level standard.

Time: 18 minutes

VT5.1, VT5.2 Technical Understanding

Measures the ability to understand written passages containing the type of material likely to be found in a typical technical setting, such as machine manuals and operating instructions.  Relevant up to good GCSE level.

Time: 20 minutes

NT6.1 Numerical Reasoning

Measures simple reasoning skills with numbers, with an emphasis on understanding, reasoning and recognising short-cuts to reach solutions.  The test is appropriate for candidates up to good GCSE level.  Calculators allowed.

Time: 12 minutes

FT7.1 Fault Diagnosis

Assesses the ability to identify faults in logical systems.  No specialised knowledge is required.  This test is suitable for candidates of good GCSE level.

Time: 18 minutes

ST8.1, ST8.2 Spatial Recognition

Measures the ability to recognise shapes in two dimensions and is relevant, for example, to apprentices, fitters, mechanics and construction workers.  Educational level not relevant.

Time: 10 minutes
