The British Psychology Society has over 36,000 members in the representative body for psychologists and psychology in the UK. The BPS aims to encourage the development of psychology as a scientific discipline and an applied profession, to raise standards of training and practice in the application of psychology, to raise public awareness of psychology and increase the influence of psychological practice in the society.
European Federation of Psychologists Associations (EFPA) is the leading federation of National Psychology Associations representing 31 member association and 150,000 psychologists. It provides a forum for European cooperation in a wide range of fields of academic training, psychology practice and research.
The European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) supports the development and application of W&O psychology in Europe and to promote cooperation between scientists and professionals working in the field across Europe. EAWOP has been designed as an open network in which associations as well as individual members can participate.
The International Test Commission (ITC) is an association of national psychological associations, test commissions, publishers and other organizations committed to promoting effective testing and assessment policies and to the proper development, evaluation and uses of educational and psychological instruments. It currently has 27 Full Members (national professional psychological associations) and 58 Affiliate Members (other test commissions, publishers and research organization involved in testing).
The International Association of Applied Psychology is the oldest international association of psychologists. Founded in 1920, it now has more than 2,000 members from more than 94 countries. The aims of the International association of Applied Psychology are to establish contact between those who, in different countries, devote themselves to scientific work in the various field of applied psychology, and to advance the study and achievement of means likely to contribute to scientific and social developments in these fields.
We also have a BPS representative on the EU Leonardo Project Group that is developing the European Diploma in Psychology. This will be a practitioner qualification for entry to the profession. The principle aim of the current EuroPsy project is to elaborate on a common framework, consult on it, test it, draft the terms of reference for a European Diploma (including the institutional aspects) and prepare a plan to implement it. The EuroPsy Partnership contains 16 partner organizations from 12 countries.
The Association of Business Psychologists aims to improve the communication of the value of business psychology to the public and private sectors, and provide a forum for those in allied professions (HR, marketing, general management) to become more involved in the development of business psychology models and applications.
