Talk us briefly through your career journey

I studied psychology at the University of Manchester and started my career in recruitment. I wasn’t a particularly good recruiter, but I discovered a love for the employer-employee relationship. After a brief stint in education sales, SHL offered me a position in the Partner Team, where I was responsible for selling assessments. I was the top performer in this team for a couple of years. I then left SHL to explore the wider market and completed a master's in occupational psychology whilst working for another assessment provider, a leadership learning provider, and a customer service transformation consultancy before returning to SHL in 2021 to drive new business sales across Europe.

What skills or experience are you proud to have gained?

I have become a much more sophisticated salesperson in my time at SHL. Prior to SHL, I succeeded through my conscientiousness and technical knowledge. The market became much tougher during and after COVID, and so I adapted and honed my skills to drive customers through the sales process. I am a more proficient influencer, stronger closer, and I have become good at simplifying complex information for customers. I have had the pleasure of representing SHL at industry events and have been able to successfully leverage these events to drive new business, where in the past networking events would have filled me with fear!

What kind of people thrive at SHL?

You’ll do well if you’re a resilient self-starter who can review and reinvent the way you work to meet the changing demands of the market. If you are comfortable in taking initiative, challenging processes for the right reasons and with the right support, and building strong relationships, you will go a long way.

Tell us about SHL’s culture and your team

If I had to describe SHL's culture in a few words, it would be good people doing good things. People are friendly and smart, and it’s nice being the ‘stupid one in the room’ because you’re always learning. SHL has always tried to do the right thing for the people that work here. My favorite things about working here are the people, the science, and the constant reinvention. In that order.
