What is your role at SHL?

I'm a Senior Associate in the Learning & Development team within the HR function. My role focuses on supporting learning initiatives, promoting engagement with our learning platforms like Percipio, and helping teams grow through development experiences.

How has your career grown since you joined?

I joined SHL in 2020 as an intern in the South Africa office. At the time, there wasn’t a formal graduate program in place, but along with some of my senior colleagues, I helped pioneer the Young Intern Program in South Africa. In 2021, I officially became part of the HR team through this program. That experience deepened my knowledge of the function and confirmed my passion for people development. In 2022, I applied for a role in the Learning & Development team and have been here ever since. With a background in Industrial Psychology both undergrad and postgrad, this role has given me the chance to apply what I studied in a meaningful way. From launching learning campaigns to supporting global initiatives, every project has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

How have your skills developed and how has SHL supported you?

SHL has supported my growth by creating a culture that values development and by offering opportunities to stretch. One such opportunity was joining the Diverse Talent program. It challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and gave me tools to lead with more intention. A big part of my development has also come from managers and mentors who saw potential in me and gave me space to grow. I’ve learned to ask for feedback, seek out learning experiences, and say yes even when I wasn’t sure I was ready.
