Key Findings

Data provides unique leader insights to meet long-term vision

The results captured some potential leader blind spots in the perception of what others thought about leaders versus what leaders thought about themselves. For example, leaders generally over-rated themselves on their ability to support risk-taking and under-rated themselves on their execution skills, including their ability to remove collaboration barriers, and invite broad perspectives.

Different lenses enabled multiple views of the same data, providing further clarity, such as excluding direct reports who were found to be much more generous with their feedback.

Further analysis showed that as gaps in perception of how people leaders rated themselves, compared to how others rated them decreased—teams’ psychological safety and employee satisfaction increased (and vice versa). This showed the importance of two-way feedback as a mechanism for building psychological safety in teams and using the assessment insights to affect change.

Reviewing tens of thousands of open text questions revealed that employees valued ‘focus,’ ‘strategy,’ and ‘clarity,’ as key leadership traits. This highlighted key areas where leaders could focus on self-development as they were seen as essential to good leadership by employees.
