Talk us briefly through your career journey

My career journey began with a university degree in law, however, having gained some experience in that field, I found I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I turned my attention to researching alternative career choices, and that’s how, as a lot of HR professionals say, I "fell into HR". I started as an Administrator, learning the ropes, and within a year, I was promoted to HR Advisor and found myself to be the main point of contact for all managers. After some time in my previous organization, I realized that there were limited opportunities for further career growth, so I began exploring new opportunities. That’s how I found SHL, where the potential to learn, explore and grow felt endless and soon enough, after some time as an Advisor, I became a HRBP.

What support did you get to drive your development?

What’s really supported my development at SHL is being able to work with different leaders and being given the platform and autonomy to be and lead authentically, whether it be on a project or my team. Having a strong support network is also key - I've been fortunate to have some great mentors, not only through the mentorship program but also via my leaders, and it is through this I’ve found the confidence to push and test myself further.

What are your top tips for owning and driving your career at SHL?

Taking ownership for my development has been important for my growth. Not waiting for an opportunity to come my way but being proactive and searching for ways to continuously improve, demonstrates initiative and it shows the business you care. Also, being open to feedback and taking those quarterly reviews seriously is important in not only tracking your progress but to reflect on how far you’ve come.

What is your favorite thing about working here?

My favorite thing about working here is the people - yes that’s a very HR thing to say, but my experience at SHL would have been very different had it not been for the people I have worked with. I’ve felt very welcomed and included from the beginning, and it’s a really empowering feeling to know your voice is being heard.
