Get involved and build relationships across the organization
Talk us briefly through your career journey
I got my master's degree in industrial and organizational psychology and always knew that I wanted to work in that field. Out of grad school, I worked for the military for a few years before moving to Minnesota to work at Target’s corporate headquarters, on their internal assessment team. I spent almost 5 years at Target before moving to SHL as a Senior Consultant and then was promoted to the manager position a little over 4 years ago.
How has your career grown since you joined?
The first area is exposure to different project work and delivery across Talent Acquisition and Talent Management. SHL gives consultants the opportunity to work across project types to build experience and expertise which is valuable. Secondly, I have stepped into a managing role, which has always been a career goal of mine. Leading, working with and developing my team is by far my favorite part of the role.
What are your top tips for owning and driving your career at SHL?
Number one is being proactive. If there are project types you want to get involved in or work that interests you internally, identify those and ask to be involved. It can’t hurt to ask, and to try and push to be involved in those areas you are interested in. Networking is a big thing as well, get involved and build relationships across the organization.
How do you maintain work-life balance here?
I think our Pre Sales Leadership team does a great job supporting each other and the team in encouraging a healthy work-life balance. We maintain awareness of the team’s workload and capacity to ensure we don’t overload anyone and support them if things get too hectic. Things come up in everyone’s personal life, and we encourage and support our teams to do what they need, step away when needed, and be flexible.
