How has your career grown since being at SHL?
It’s been an amazing journey so far at SHL. When I started, I was a fresher who didn’t know a lot about the work, I just arrived with the eagerness to learn, contribute, and grow. Since then, I have experienced three big changes in roles with two promotions and one transition in the span of 4.5 years, and my career and learning has been on a rocket upwards with lots of opportunities.
What skills or experiences are you proud to have gained?
In addition to technical skills, being an introvert, I’ve learnt how to lead teams, deliver things with efficiency, and developed the right work ethic. I’ve learned how to give and take constructive criticism and how to implement it to make sure we deliver what the client wants with good quality. A huge part of my career growth came from refusing to be limited by my job description. Instead of just sticking to my daily tasks, I made it a point to step up, collaborate with different team members, and contribute beyond my scope with the goal of delivering a great product to our clients.
What support did you get to drive your development?
I’ve always been blessed in this case. My manager and director have always appreciated my highs and supported me in my lows. On a random day I booked a meeting with my manager and director to talk about my career progression, and I mentioned to them how I’ve been looking and preparing for cloud infrastructure and was interested in moving into the DevOps team in order to expand my technical skills. It was then my manager and director who took the lead and supported me in transitioning smoothly from QA to DevOps.
What kind of people thrive at SHL?
I’ve always seen people thrive at SHL when they take real ownership of their work, hold themselves accountable, go beyond the limits of their roles to contribute, don’t shy away from stepping up when needed, and bring a strong work ethic with smart, meaningful contributions.
