Talk us briefly through your career journey

I didn’t have a clear career plan early on, so after studying Maths and Physics simply because I enjoyed them, I found my way into finance almost by chance. Gaining my professional accounting qualification opened doors I hadn’t anticipated, leading to senior roles, international travel, and work across logistics, banking, and digital transformation, including time at The Economist Group supporting the launch of its Espresso app. Those experiences eventually led me to SHL, where the focus on product and technology growth felt like a natural fit for what I enjoy most.

I joined SHL in a broader FP&A role covering multiple disciplines and this evolved into a director role where I now work solely with the Digital function, primarily SHL’s Chief Digital Officer, using both my financial and business acumen to support them to make operational and strategic decisions. It’s a partnership and I can see the direct impact of my work on the business. One of the key initiatives that has made a difference to me is the SHL Mentoring Program. I have mentored others and have worked with a mentor both of which have been invaluable to my development.

How would you describe SHL’s culture?

The culture at SHL is positive. I work with great people in an open and friendly environment and people truly care about each other. I appreciate being able to work autonomously and manage my own time and workload. The Community Impact Days, where you take paid time out of the business to volunteer and support a local charity, are rewarding and invaluable to team building and getting to know colleagues within a different environment.

How do balance, purpose, and impact shape your experience in this role?

It’s a very busy, deadline focused role and I manage my own time in a way that works well for me but delivers for the business. Flexibility is key and if you offer this as an individual, you are rewarded with the same flexibility from the business. The canteen is amazing here and other benefits such as the healthcare plan are great, making sure that our wellbeing is well looked after as an employee.
